Review: Pink Floyd

Pink Floyd.. A great band of psyhedelic/space/progressive rock.

Everything started with Piper At the Gates of Dawn. Syd Barrett lead the direction of bands music to a world of psyhedelia. This album is a masterpiece because it displays the talent of Syd perfectly.
When LSD began to take it's toll on Syd, the band employed David Gilmour to fulfill Syd's duties.

Their second album A Saucerful of Secrets contains only one Syd Barrett song which is a sad song, giving us a clue about his mental health and depression at that time. The albums highlight is Remember a Day by Rick Wright and the fan favourite Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun by Roger Walters.

Their next album Umagumma is a two disc masterpiece with a live disc that contains my favourite pink floyd song, Careful with that axe Eugene. The studio album contains various compositions of band members.

After doing a soundtrack for the movie Zabriskie Point, they made the album Meddle which is another masterpiece. It contains another fan favourite Echoes. Some claim that it is the greatest track ever written in the history of progressive music.

Obscured by Clouds is one of their weaker albums which shows a change in bands music.

Then comes their highest selling album, Dark Side of the Moon. Every track here is a masterpiece and it's a must listen to album for everyone.

Wish You Were Here is a tribute to Syd Barrett and it has politicly aware lyrics and two long intsturmental pieces.

Animals is full of politicaly aware lyrics and social criticsm.

The Wall is a political rock opera and it's nearly composed entirely by Roger Walters. Some claim it's the bands greatest work which i strongly disagree. I think it's a sellout.

The Final Cut is like Wall 2 and it's about a war and peace and the weaknesses of the human mind. Another Roger Waters composition..

After Roger Waters leaves the band, the band loses it's light and with David Gilmour, produce two albums A Momentary Lapse Of Reason and The Division Bell.

Finally, i would like to help you where to start Floyd. If you'r a psyhedelic rock fan, start from their first album and if you'r a progressive rock fan, start from their album, Dark Side of The Moon.
